I volunteer at edinburgh zoo as part of the education department. Part of my role is to help the visitors learn about the various species of animal in the zoo. Many of the species are part of conservation programmes so it is important to highlight why this is and what measures people can do to help these species!

We ate a nut roast this year and managed to convince family to ditch the turkey this year, and there were no complaints... well not to my face anyway!

Soon after I moved house over 9 years ago I was lucky enough to discover that there was a badgers sett near the end of my garden. Almost every night the badgers feed on the peanut butter sandwiches and biscuits that we leave out for them. It doesn't cost a lot to buy cheap peanut butter, bread and biscuits - we are more than rewarded by the joy we get in watching them. They usually come alone or in pairs but a couple of times I've seen as many as 7 in one go! People that visit us love to watch them too.

We've been having terribly cold weather. I am keeping an eye on my garden to make sure it is a welcoming environment for any little visitors.

At least once a week, I sit down with my two boys and we all watch The Gruffalo on DVD. We switch the lights off and turn the volume up loud so that we here all the sounds of the deep dark wood and of course, the animals!

I am going to meditate and pray for love, happiness and lots of money for the beautiful caring people who have posted their onekind act ![]()
ZipperMan,
Helping animals can take many forms. Something as simple as giving up meat and fish and avoiding wearing leather can mean sparing lots of animals from a miserable life and cruel death. Saving just one life (be it human or animal) is massively important and by adopting a vegetarian lifestyle, you can potentially save thousands of lives.
lorna321,
We feed a hedgehog every day, who comes in our garden. His name is Prickley. we got advice on what to feed him from a local Hedgehog rescue centre. I have three cats, but that does not seem to bother him!
Wendy,
Vegetarian for 40 years, vegan for 1. Surprise! It is EASY! I expected it to be hard, but no! There are sooooo many great, convenient foods now (no time to cook). Even vegan restaurants in little Sacramento CA ( not NYC, LA, or the Mecca for vegans, Portland OR). I was living with background guilt that has lifted. Now I really enjoy my food! My (rescue) dogs are vegans too!
