Animal investigations appeal
On a lonely, desolate hillside, miles from the nearest road, a gamekeeper callously sets a series of illegal snares to trap and kill foxes.
Well aware of the consequences of his actions, he believes that his crime won’t be discovered – no-one walks here. But Steve does.
What does Steve give to save animals? Watch this short film to find out
On another estate, again far from the public’s gaze, a gamekeeper stakes a rabbit to the ground and covers the animal’s body with an illegal poison. The reason – to reduce the number of birds of prey on the estate. No-one will get wind of this deplorable crime – no-one walks here. But Steve does.
Steve* is OneKind’s Field Research and Investigations Officer. Steve is our eyes and ears on the ground.
Whether he is walking on a Scottish shooting estate inspecting snares, documenting evidence of neglect of animals in travelling circuses or monitoring the conditions of animals involved in food production, Steve is gathering vital evidence that OneKind uses to support our campaigns.
This work comes at a price. It costs OneKind £120 per day to keep Steve in the field. He requires surveillance equipment, safety equipment, protective clothing, travel and accommodation.

"My work takes me far and wide and I never know just exactly what the day is going to bring. OneKind covers a broad variety of animal protection issues which means that I have to be prepared for anything. Intensive farming, circuses, zoos, animal experimentation, puppy farming, wildlife crime, hunting, snaring, the pet trade, live export of farm animals and seal persecution are some of the issues that I can work on in an average year."
* Please note, in the interest of safety we’ve changed the name of our amazing Field Research and Investigations Officer.
