And what a month January was!

The Scottish Government put an end to the 'sport' of foxhunting, new polling revealed that the majority of Scots want to see the Scottish Government put an end to greyhound racing, a motion has been brought forward to the Scottish Government to ban electric shock collars and the UK Parliament debated the issue of snares. We have also been quoted in 13 pieces of media coverage this month.

Scottish Government bans ‘sport’ of foxhunting in Scotland

At the end of January, the Scottish Government ended the 'sport' of foxhunting in Scotland.

Under the Hunting with Dogs (Scotland) Bill, which the Scottish Parliament voted to pass, there will now be a two-dog limit for flushing wild mammals to guns, effectively putting an end to fox hunting packs.

We've been campaigning for decades for a real foxhunting ban, and while there are aspects of the legislation that we do not support, the end of foxhunting as a 'sport' in Scotland is undoubtably a landmark moment.

Following the passing of the Hunting with Dogs (Scotland) Bill, we were quoted in 12 media outlets. These included STV News, The Times and The National.

Motion to ban electric shock collars

Maurice Golden MSP has tabled a motion with the Scottish Parliament to request the introduction of a complete ban on these cruel devices. We are very supportive of the motion.

Majority of Scots want to see an end to greyhound racing

A new poll commissioned by international non profit, GREY2K USA, which works to put an end to greyhound racing industries worldwide, has revealed that 6 in 10 Scots believe that the Scottish Parliament should vote to phase out greyhound racing.

The Daily Record covered the stats and OneKind Director, Bob Elliot, commented in the piece.

UK Parliament debates snares 

Minister Trudy Harrison, responding for the UK Government, confirmed that the UK Government will work with the Scottish and Welsh governments to understand their approaches to snares- i.e. Scotland’s review on the impact of snares and Wales proposed snaring ban. 

Snared badger rehabilitated 

A horrifying snaring incident involving a badger, that was reported to us via SnareWatch, was covered by The Daily Record. Thankfully, the badger is recovering.
