Mark Ruskell MSP has launched the consultation for the Proposed Prohibition of Greyhound Racing (Scotland) Bill, which would ban greyhound racing in Scotland.

Greyhound racing

This is a crucial opportunity to secure a greyhound racing ban and we need your help to demonstrate the public support for this proposed Bill.

We’re asking you to please pledge your support for the main aims of the Bill, which are as follows:

  • To prohibit the use of greyhounds in racing.
  • To achieve this aim through the creation of a criminal offence for a person to use or permit the usage of greyhounds in racing at (licensed and unlicensed) racetracks for commercial and non-commercial purposes in Scotland, and the creation of provisions for enforcement of that offence.

Pledge your support

When each of the 9 Unbound the Greyhound coalition members submits their consultation response, they will include the total number of pledges from this action. This will demonstrate the weight of public support for the proposed ban.

You helped us reach this pivotal stage

An incredible 22,655 people have signed the Unbound the Greyhound open letter to the Scottish Government calling for a phase out to dog racing.

The sheer number of signatures has demonstrated considerable support for an end to this industry in Scotland and helped lead to this significant parliamentary action taken by Mark Ruskell MSP. Indeed, we were delighted to be invited to speak about the coalition at the launch of the consultation at the Scottish Parliament (alongside two four-legged campaigners, Bob and Bluesy!).

We will be handing the open letter over to the Scottish Government in early March.
