A dog was caught round his neck by a snare which was set in the grounds of Hatfield House.

While walking his dog within the grounds, a local resident was shocked to discover his pet trapped in the snare which was set very near to the path they were walking on.

He told OneKind: "All of a sudden I heard a snap sound and my dog (who was off the lead) started whining. As I turned I could see him terrified with a metal rod connected with the ground.

"Luckily enough I was there and I could keep him calm until I could release him.

"Looking around the place I realized it was literally a mine field with other snares hidden at ground level".

He added that there was nothing to warn walkers about the snares.
