SnareWatch

If you have any concerns about the use of snares, anywhere in the UK, you can share them with us on the SnareWatch website.

You can tell us if your pet was caught in a snare, report findings of animals trapped in snares, raise concerns about possible illegal misuse of snares or simply let us know if you’re worried about snares you have seen in a particular area.

Snare sightings and snaring incidents in the UK (2021)

Wire snare set in countryside

Snares cause considerable physical and mental suffering to the animals trapped in them, and yet these archaic devices are still perfectly legal across Scotland and the rest of the UK.

Since 2011 we have been appealing for reports about snares found by members of the public through our SnareWatch website. SnareWatch is a reporting tool, where anyone in the UK can report snare sightings and snaring incidents and get advice on how to report any illegal incidents.

This report highlights a selection of reports from the British public to SnareWatch in 2021, and one case that was reported in the media, that demonstrate the suffering inflicted by snares, their prevalence across the UK and the widespread range of species caught in them – from wild, to farmed and companion animals.
